Akureyri at dawn BL10-06-10

Iceland's second largest city, situated at the head of Eyjafjörður, dates back to the time of the early settlement. It is an excellent base from which to explore Mývatn and surrounding areas. This photograph, taken from the harbour, shows the twin towers of Akureyrarkirkja, designed by the same architest, Gudjón Samúelsson, as designed Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík. The church contains some of the original stained glass windows from the old Coventry Cathedral, removed before it was destroyed during World War II.
