Farm buildings at Núpsstaður BL10-06-02
|
The farm takes its name from Lómagnúpur, a hypoclastite mountain that marks the start of the treacherous Skeiðarársandur.
The mountain is mentioned in Njáll's saga as the home of a vengeful giant, Jámgrimur. Built in the 18th century, the farm was
home to Hannes Jónsson (1880-1968), a farmer and post courier who for 50 years
guided travellers across the sands.
